Phoenix, AZ ((July 3, 2023) — The older fencers at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club reached the point in their competitive schedules where they have to grind through it.

Most fencers attending Summer Nationals compete in as many events as they can. This means there will be priority events and then events fencers use as training exercises to see how they stack up in higher divisions or with more experienced fencers.

For example, a cadet-aged fencer will compete in Division I or Division I-A events to see where they stack up. And often, they have breakthrough events where they finish at the top of the list.

In Division I-A Women’s Foil, Alina Zhang reached the top-16, coming in at 11. Grace Feng at 27 made the top-32. Catherine Zhou (37) and Eleanor Li (57) each made the top-64.

In Division I Men’s Foil, Nickolas Rusadze just made the top-64, coming in at 63.

In Division I-A Men’s Saber, Seth Edelman made the top-64 at 58th place. And in Division I Women’s Saber, Madison Duckett made the top-64 at 37th place.

The National Championships and July Challenge (Summer Nationals) are in Phoenix, AZ, from June 30 to July 9. This signature tournament features 96 events (and 96 medal ceremonies) over 10 days. Medals — and national championships — will be on the line in every USA Fencing classification, from the youngest (Y10) to the most seasoned veterans (Vet 80).
